New Blog, New Features!

Hi, all!

You may have noticed some major changes around here. I’m now self-hosting my blog! (That means much greater control over how it looks and functions. WOOOO!) I also have my very own domain name, so no more zillahsreadingcorner.wordpress.com, it’s just zillahsreadingcorner.com. 😀 For the next year, the old URL will redirect to the new one, but I’d still appreciate if you could update your bookmarks and links.

Now for the added features!

You’ll notice that you can click “Show posts with” a certain couple in the sidebar over there, and under “Stories” in the menu above. To clarify, “Seb & Zain” will show posts with ONLY that couple, not Quint & Theo, and vice versa. To see posts with both, click “Q/T & S/Z”. Also, once you click on any of those options, the list of posts in the sidebar gets updated to show only those posts (newest first). I’m still tinkering with this, so let me know if you think I should make any changes.

You can also pick posts by type: Extras (behind-the-scenes and added features), Introductions (character bios and images), or Stories (all stories, no padding!)

At the bottom of the sidebar, you can subscribe to receive a notification by email when I post something new. (If you already did this on my old site, don’t worry, I transferred your subscription over.) Finally, there’s a search box in case you can’t find what you’re looking for. It will search inside stories except for the ones hosted as PDF files (Plebe Summer and When Life Leaves You High and Dry).

On the posts themselves, I also have a new feature called in-line comments. This is a great solution for when you’re reading a longer piece and you have something you want to comment on in the middle, but you know you’ll forget it by the end. Now you can just pause, comment there without scrolling down to the bottom, and keep reading! Here’s how it works:

1. Once you click into the post itself (either through “Continue reading”, the post title, or a direct link), hover your mouse over any paragraph and notice a small bubble appears on the right side.
   
2. Click the bubble and a comment box will open next to it.
   
3. Write your comment and click “Post comment”. You also have the option to subscribe to notifications for new posts or follow-up comments right below.
4. You’ll see a green notification at the top of the screen when the comment is posted. It then appears at the end of the post, with all the other comments! (Refresh the page to see it when you get down there.)
   

Note: I’m still working to make this feature better. For now, it won’t indicate the paragraph you’re commenting on in the final comment, so you may wish to copy/paste that section into the comment box, if it won’t be obvious. 😀 Also, in-line comments are currently available in the desktop version only. Sorry about that.
